What started as an idea has now developed into an ever-growing, humbling dream business. Rebecca Pisani founded Alaria in 2019 with the ethos of helping vulnerable and marginalized communities. With her love for handmade items, she wanted to support artisan work through purchases of their ethical and fairly traded products. Around a year ago, Alaria’s first website was launched, showcasing a wide range of handmade products lovingly made by artisan communities worldwide. We communicated with brands based in India, Peru, Cambodia, Mexico, and Guatemala, learning about their traditional crafts, Communities, authentic materials, and love for their artisans & the environment. With these Connections, we carefully curated a collection of beautiful handmade goods, shining a light on small brands, and Connecting the hands that make the products to conscious & curious consumers worldwide.
As much as we believe in having a strong online platform and reaching many different customers globally, we also believe in the necessity of feeling the products for yourselves locally, as no two items are the same. Searching for a location is never easy, as we wanted the area to be a perfect depiction of the brand itself. By chance, we stumbled upon a buried ad and went to visit the site; the rest is history. We are thrilled to announce our first ever store in a quaint Maltese village, nestled amongst authentic Maltese homes and narrow streets. It was a natural fit for Alaria and a genuine find. Having a brick and mortar allows Alaria’s online presence to be transformed into something tangible, as well as through its scent, sound, touch, and all-round ambiance.
From website launches to brunches, eco markets, and everything in between, a brick and mortar is a natural, exciting, and heart-warming next step. Alaria will forever believe in its philosophy; providing a space for handmade artisan products to be adored by customers globally & locally. There is something honest and authentic about handmade items; the character they encompass instantly connects you to the hands that make them. Everyone has a story, and here at Alaria, we try communicating that story to a broader audience, Connecting different Communities along the way. We are a Community. Thank you for your constant support and stay tuned for our next chapter.
